FAQ
Where are you located?
We (Nataschia and Christine) are located in Niagara and Nova Scotia respectively, but we work together to create events local to us, and beyond. The Arts of Leisure is operated from Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia.
What is the difference between the immersive retreats and the makers retreats?
An immersive retreat focuses on a single craft or practice, such as painting, photography, knitting, or writing. These can be simply a day, or three or four. A makers retreat is multidisciplinary and welcomes anyone who likes to make things with their hands - our goal is simply to get women together and give them the time and the community to create, as well as provide incredible accommodations, fun excursions, delicious meals, and thoughtful details.
What skill level do you need to be to participate in an immersive or a makers retreat?
We believe that all making is a practice, and for the most part, you’ll find our immersive retreats will meet you where you are at, with plenty of time either one on one or in small groups. Our makers retreats encourage all levels, because a key part of the experience is exchanging techniques, traditions and stories.
Will I have my own room?
All our pricing is based off of single occupancy, and unless specified, a private bathroom. If you and a friend would like to share, let us know and hello@theartsofleisure.com. We will always do our best to accommodate your requests.
Do I need travel insurance?
For all retreats where you are travelling, yes, you do need your own travel insurance.
What is an Experience Partner?
Over the years we’ve met and connected with many incredible women and thought “We should do something together!” and, well, here we are. The Arts of Leisure is not just a business but a passion project where we showcase the amazing things our friends and family have to teach us. Our Experience Partners are each a domain expert in their own right, and through their expertise we are able to offer a wide variety of programming designing to awaken the maker in all of us.
What should I expect during our walking tours?
Our hikes are intended to be engaging and enjoyable - not strenuous. That said, you should be comfortable with walking 10 to 15 kilometers. We ask that you bring comfortable shoes, a water bottle, and dress for the weather. We will never force a walk in a rainstorm, and you always have the option to stay behind in our cozy accommodations with a good book, or the analog hobby of your choice.
Who is The Arts of Leisure for?
This small company was built for people who find travel, friendship and creativity deeply restorative, and are looking for curated experiences which nurture all three. There is no set archetype, but chances are, if you are open-minded, interested and love a grandma-hobby, you’d be in great company on one of our adventures together!
